MEN I TRUST ALRIGHT

The lounge-funk Montreal trio Men I Trust have released their third album Oncle Jazz. The band weld together modest, lo-fi indie vocals with funk and jazz based grooves. 'Alright' is a refined instrumental jam, plucked from the 24 song album. At the start, a jazzy drum groove skips, accompanied by expansive held synth chords. As the bass enters, the keys become more rhythmic and the two instruments mirror each other, then develop into call and response, becoming more vibrant. A bohemian 70s lead guitar comes in, which adds to the psychedelic tone, not too dissimilar from ‘Expansions’ by Lonnie Liston Smith. The song is both light and breezy and zestfully dancey. The band explain, "We like to use a lot of repetitive movements in melodies and chord progressions to give the songs a prayer-like rhythm." -Ellie Rose Davies
